In general, any story that has a "moral" should not be told. It tries to cast the world in black-and-white. If you do this, then such-and-such happens. It paints a rather deterministic picture. Animals are not cunning. They kill only for food or perhaps if they are threatened. While understanding of food chains and hierarchy is important, "crulety" for the sake of it as depicted is deploarble (just as voilence in children's cartoons is). It is not true that children are not affected by the voilence. Children are less likely to help conservation of nature if they are told of animals killing humans. animal-animal interaction stories are less likely to have such an effect. When you read a book (or are narrated a story), your brain is reconstructing the pictures. When you see it on TV/computer, all imagination is taken out of it. That is the reason why most people do not like movies that are based on books if they have read the book (and it is a good one). My advice: tell them stories without morals. Let them decide what to take out of it. Tell them stories that will employ their imagination. Let them keep guessing what is it that the story is trying to tell them. That will help them develop much better. If you tell stories from aesop, panchatantra, don't just edit them, but modify them. Add a personal touch. Show them the world that others can not. And let them create their own.

माझ्या मुलीला सुद्धा भारतात येण्याआधी US मधले PBS Kids, Noggin, Nick Junior वगैरे channels खूप आवडत होते कारण त्यात हिंसा वगैरे नव्हतीच.. disney चेही बरेच cartoons एकदम soft असतात. e.g. PBS kids Little Bear, Seseame Street, Between the Lions, Zooboomafoo, Clifford the big red dog, Dora the explorer, Blues Clues, Winnie the Pooh etc.. Disney programs, Warner brothers' Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry वगैरे have lot of violence. They also show kisses etc. e.g. a female cat wearing a lot of make up and how Tom cat's eyes pop up suddenly after seeing her etc... I feel even that is a bit too much for young kids..
