Umesh, aka Mawla,

Both panoramas are absolutely mindblowing, composition is really awesome.
Few questions,
1. I suppose these are stitched pictures, which program or photoshop?
2. Any last retouch in photoshop, except frames (NO intention of suspecting your work)
3. your gadgets?

Would like to see few more of such pieces.

Kangaroo chya sobat ji comment keli ahe ti "Salyanche" ase na wachta "SaGlyanche" :-)
ashi wachavi, my apology

Lopamudra n prasad thanks for your comment...

it is madeup of 6 snaps..I stiched using photoshop cs2
As discussed above light was very bad..left side was very dark and middle bright and again right less dark...to make it balance i did change levels, brightness and contrast. increased blue saturation....

As this was more than 180 deg pano( and no one noticed :-)..far left and far right shadow lines are not in same direction...don't know how to do that..
______________________________
About second pic of yara river.. 2 snaps stiched and absolutly no changes..except frames.. I like the pic than 1st one..
_________________________________________

Normaly I use curves to adjust Brightness and contrast and saturation.

for landscape I use D70, remote cable, very good tripod ( it weigh 5 KG ), 28-105 lense , depend on light condition use warm or polarizer filter, Normaly I use F22 and app. according to light( look for hyperfocal on google, I did not understand maths/technology behind it, but some how it's working for me, may be prashant, nikonlover or alhad can explain this), for pano I use sprit level to keep camera level same for all snaps.

The problem with stitching is that on the monitor things look nice, however prints show the real problem areas. This is very pronounced when there is a foreground object in the picture. You need to get a good understanding of the nodal point for the focal length, and need a good panoramic head or Tilt-shift lenses. After trying various techniques (check out an
example I have resorted to a roll-film back for my 4x5 camera. I now get wonderful 6x17cm slides which can be enlarged easily up to 2m in longer dimension. :-)

Mawla, you do not need a warming filter with digital captures. You can easily change the white balance for the look you want. There is no joy like like viewing slides on a light table if exposed properly. You will be impressed to see the details in a 6x7 or 4x5in slides. Now 5D is very close to 6x4.5 but it still has less details. It is said that you need to burn at least 30 rolls (with notes, handheld meter etc) to get it right. Digital, on the other hand is convenient, but also has a steep learning curve if you are into printing fine-art. As I said before, things do look nice on the monitor.

Umesh, the following landscape is also brilliant. I used to see these effects on Prashant's website and never understood how he got such results, till I read a photography book, that you should be exposing longer.
Used the same technique, when I was down in Rome. My camcorder supports max 1/2 sec exposure so took this fountain in St. Peter's square. Picture is (of course) VERY noisy but I think I got the effect.

How long did you expose for this landscape picture?

About panoramas, I found this program Autostitch, developed by some Canadian University(just google the name) The demo version doesn't offer you high resolution picture but it is the best I have ever seen. Sometimes when I don't carry tripod and tend to shoot panorma (or something like the one below), most of the pictures get messed up to stitch but this program is absolutely brilliant. Does exactly what it says on the tin.

The following Trevi Fountain picture is made up of 10 pictures, taken almost in a random fashion from the top most step of the fountain. Those who have been there will realise how close I was to take full fountain in one shot.

Worth giving a try.

Lopa,MawLa,
Thanks for your comments.

MawLa, about slides - I agree, there is not so much of lattitude for error...but I absolutely love them...although workflow is tedious.. shoot+develop+scan+adjust/postprocess to match original slide then print or publish!

Prashant, I agree there is so much detail in there..In addition to the light table, its absolute joy project them on screen and watch them.. Do you own a Medium and Large format cameara? Which one?
I recently bought the Nikon D200..but for landscapes, I'm still using my film/slide camera...still experimenting with D200..

About hyperfocal distance - I could go on writing about it..but there is tons of info. on web..
here is one link -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperfocal_distance

On a separate topic, one of the headache here is fitting the image in 50Kb size(from original size of 10MB to 50MB) and still trying to maintain atleast some details..

Do you own a Medium and Large format cameara?>>
I have a Pentax 6x7 and Shen-Hao 4x5 larger format. Although P67 will be gone next month. Then I will only have 4x5 for landscapes and digital for everything else.

Prasad,
you seem to have had nice time in Rome with the new camera. :-)
