मित्रांनो,
तुम्ही टेनिस follow करत असाल अशी अपेक्षा करून, हा Thread सुरू करत आहे...
( चर्चा फ़क्त Mens Singles ) शी निगडीत असावी अशी अपेक्षा आहे )
मायबोली वर जवळपास सगळ्या वयोगटातील लोक आहेत, त्यामुळे प्रत्येक टेनिस चाहत्याचा स्वत्:चा असा एक हीरो असेल 
अगदी राॅड लेव्हर पासून पासून फ़ेडरर पर्यंत !!!
मग तुमच्या मते आत्ता पर्यंत चा सर्वोत्कृष्ट टेनिस प्लेयर कोण ??? आणि का ???
माझ्या मते तरी राॅजर फ़ेडरर सर्वोत्कृष्टतेचे सर्व निकष पार करत आहे !!!
गेल्या ४ वर्षात ९ Grand Slam Titles .. हे एक amazing record आहे..
आणि त्याही पेक्षा महत्वाचे ज्या तर्‍हेने तो shots खेळत आहे.. त्याला प्रतिस्पर्ध्याकडे काही जवाबच नसतो...
ह्या US Open मधे हेन्मन विरूद्ध त्याने एक shot मारला, पायांमधून !!
Considered as the Shot Of Tournament .. तुम्ही पाहिला असेलच... तो खरच अवर्णनीय होता...
जेव्हा जगातील पहिल्या दहातले खेळाडू त्याच्या विरूद्ध एखादा सेट जिंकतात.. तेव्हा त्यांची reaction असते..
Atleast, I showed him that I can fight....!!!!!!
एवढा आदर खचितच कोणा टेनिस प्लेयर ला मिळाला असेल...
वयाच्या २५ वर्षी One Of Greatest म्हणवल्या जाणारा हा प्लेयर.. तुमच्या मते आत्ता पर्यंतचा सर्वोत्कृष्ट आहे का ??

I'm not that updated. But I think Pete Sampras has won MORE grand-slams (14?)than Federer till date. Borg is the other name that comes to my mind as a hot contender of all-time-greatest title.

you are right, Pete Sampras has won 14 majors, 5 more than Federer. And Björn Borg won 11 majors, 2 more again.
Goings by stats, Sampras won 14 majors over the period of almost 17 years. Federer won 9 in 5 years !!!
Yess, Borg is serious contender for it !!!
In your words, He won 11 majors at the age of 25 while Federer has 9 at the same edge. But, after that Borg didn't win anything...that was biiig surprise.
Don't think so, Federer willl do that ever, he is heading for that
20 Majors figure !!!

mi ase aaikale aahe hi ' don bradman' ha jagatlya sagalya players madhe aani sagalya khela madhe top aahe.
the reason given is he is way ahead in the average from his next compititor. which is not found in any other game in the world with any player.

federer is complete package. He is delight to watch. But I sincerely believe that sampras and federer both are benefitted by the fact that there ain't too many players around who could have matched them at skillset, talent and consistency. Timings is turned out to be just too perfect for these guys.
Of course not to say that, it is not their fault and it most certainly does not take away anything from their achievements.

unfortunately मी कधी borg चा game पाहिला नाहीये, खुप ऐकुन आहे. Sampras माझा आवडता player आहे.
borg US open एकदाही जिंकला नाही. australian open मधे म्हणे त्याने most of the times participate केलच नाही ( i may be wrong here, but i think so ). so may be borg wasn't the master of hard court.
sampras wasn't a good clay court player.
when you look at federer, he is good on all the surfaces. he is almost perfect. nadal सारखा weirdo च त्याला घाबरवु ( may be i shdn't use this term ) शकतो. nadal doesn't play by books. federer did complain in the past that his coach (his uncle) "somehow" manages to give him advice abt game tactics during the game. i have no idea if it's true, but federer doesn't look like a person who would complain abt something like this. well, federer always looks so calm (just like sampras) , कुठेही दमलाय वगरे वाटत नाही. opponents ना किती आरामात नाचवतो.
i am talking abt grand slam titles only. बाकी ATP tournaments बद्दल मला खुप details माहीत नाहीयेत.

Pooh अगदी बरोबर, बोर्ग कमी खेळला
वयाच्या २६ व्या वर्षी रिटायर झाला..
At that time, it was SHOCK to the world, but he retired as if he got burnt-out in early 80's . Surely, this should not be the sign of GREATEST player, getting burn-out or loosing that spark for the game in half-way of his career.
No doubt, he is one of the greatest...but don't think so he is the greatest. He won 2 Major Tournaments, Wimbeldon & French., got out in finals 4 times in US open & never went ahead of 3rd round in Aus in his sole attempt.
Just not enough man, to be called as the Greatest !!!
You may be knowing, he made his comeback, in 90's again in professional tennis again owing to his financial condition, but failed & it was obvious.

असामी, मला तुझ म्हणण काही अंशी पटल. पण पुर्णपणे नाही. last year safin and nadal दोघान्नी ( aussie open and french open resp. ) मधे हरवल. they had to play their best to beat him. म्हणजे अस नाही की त्याला हरवु शकत नाही कोणी, पण other players have to play their best if they want to beat him.
त्यामुळे अस म्हणता येणार नाही की त्यांना टक्कर देणारे players च नाहीत म्हणुन.

तुझे म्हणणे नाही पटले....
sampras had got awesome competitors in terms of Agassi, Courier, Becker, ivanesevic, pioline, rafter etc अजून आठवत नाहियेत
पण Boss, these were too good players to have a cake-walk with 14 Majors, not easy at all
आणि फ़ेडरर बद्दल म्हणशील तर... त्याला competiton मिळाली नसेल क्वचितदा.. पण म्हणजे त्याचे competitors बक्वास आहेत म्हणून नव्हे..
तर he is just too much ahead of his contemporaries in terms of All Round Tennis qualities.
I will rate him better than even Sampras, beacuase as you rightly said, he is complete package, just a treat to watch.

I think , you are considering Andre because of his Slam.
But then would you rate Andre Agassi better than the likes of Rod Lever & some one who did it .. way back.
These Guyz, did True GrandSlam, 4 in a calender year. Andre did it over the period.

Federer Vs likes of Roddick, Hewitt, Nadal, Safin
It was never going to be easy for Sampras, he got that much, because he was Best at that time.
Federer is getting that luxury of Virtually Unbeatable because of his technical ability which is way beyond his peers
Yes, Agassi is one of the greatest, I'm not denying that, I'am his ardent fan after his 92 Wimbeldon . But then we are talking about Greatest correct !!

I think, you are not getting my point.
These players hardly played bad against Sampras as compared to the likes of Roddick, Hewitt, Safin, Blake, Davydenko & to some extent Nadal are playing against Federer.
Difference lies there.

जास्वंदा I have mentioned the word consistency my post. None of the players you mentioned showed consistency needed to beat the best more than couple of occasions. Of yeah, there were matches and periods when they excelled, made themselves virtually unplayble. But pit them againts best of the best, again and again, and they faltered.
Plus, you have to look at timeline. Some of the fierce competitors were towards end of their career when Sampras got it going. Same applies for Federer.
Is he greatest ? Maybe ? How do you judge if he is not stressed to his best ability ? Does he has kink in his armor ? Maybe ? Nadal manages to beat him almost every time (I guess fed. has one win against him)
I'm not taking away any of his or sampras's achievements. It's just that it seemed they had/are having little less competition that they deserved. They deserved for, to be the best of the all.
Won't you love to watch Federer taking on player of his equal caliber say Sampras ?

If you talk about only consistency.. none of th players we are discussing here will qualify for that. It was one n only Don Budge from 30s have been voted as the Best Player !!!
You accept that, these players some times gave a real taste of fight to Sampras. And we are not discussing about these players as great..but Sampras as one. Becaue, these players over the period of time, always tested Sampras. In a way, Sampras had to play his best tennis, to be on top. Same applies to Federer also. Difference is that, currently as per ATP ranking system, Federer is ahead of Nadal (No.2) by 499 pts, & ahead of Roddick(No.3) by 890 pts. !!!!
Why I mentioned this because, in order to be great you have to be way ahead in terms of ability n class. This you can not consider as advantage to great player,saying there is no competition.
Because, in 1st place , if there suppose to be so much competition , that player will not become great. And, if he wins with competiotion, you will say, competitors are not good enough & hence he is winning
I mean its lose-lose situation then for the player.
what say ???
