Thanks Sukhada for these sites,

These site list couple of items but not 'all' What 'exactly' I am looking for is, there are many many criterias from which you have to select and the it filters out products for you.
Kind of fishing out exact product of your choice depending on features of your expactations

I need some advice in deciding whether to send NTSC or PAL camcorder for use in India.

I want to send a mini-dv digital camcorder for my sis in India. She will be moving to a new house in India where she needs to buy TV/ vcr/ vcd player etc. Basically she needs to build the home entertainment system. I read in some previous posts that nowadays all new TV/ vcr etc in India are both NTSC and PAL compatible.

Obviously I see more choices in the market for NTSC camcorders ( both quality and price) but those for PAL ones are very few.

Shall I really worry about the NTSC/ PAL issue? My current impression is that I can just buy a good NTSC one here, and there should not be any problems downloading/viewing it in India. What is advisable? Do people even use a VCR nowadays in India, or is everyone using a vcd/dvd player, in which case I think NTSC/PAL is not an issue at all ( or am I being too optimistic?).

Also do all the TVs/ VCRs are by default both NTSC/ PAL compatible? Or do you have to pay considerably more for getting that feature?

Please share ur opinions and recommendations.

I have canon MV 600, brought 2 years back. It worked great till few days back. One fine day I realised that the screen is blank. I was not able to record; voice was getting recorded but not the image. (record kela tar purna aandhar record hoto).I am able to see recorded videos, but not able to record new one.

Then I sent the camera to canon service centre, they said some CCD is corrupted and they would need to replace the part. To do this repair they have quoted whopping $350.

Warranty for the item has expired recently.

Has anyone come across this blank screen problem in camcorders?

I am confused whether I get this repaired and use it some more days or just dump this model and buy new one. :-(

pulzee,
I faced the same problem with my Canon zr50. (so is it that Canon cams has problems?)
worked fine for almost a year and then had a blue screen or blank as u say. Since there was just few days left before end of the warranty, I got it repaired free from canon. sorry to hear that ur warranty period has expired.

Savyasachi,
Thanks for the quick reply.
How is your camcorder working now? Did you face any problems?
I checked on net, ZR series of canon(k/a MV series in europe) has this problem. The part which has to be replaced is CCD, the most expensive chip in cams.
If your report of post replacement of parts is good then I might as well go for repairs.

aajun ek prashan aahe, how long is the warranty on the canon cams?

i suggest using adapter.
there are adapters available in india,
i left mine with my parents when i came back. the adapter looks like normal adapter, with slot to fit US style plug pin. ..... it can be found in any elctronic shop or customs shop. its safe to use.
and RCA cables are same everywhere, so u can hook that up to TV also. hope this helps

check out your camcoder's power supply adapter. If it says AC in 100V to 240 V, all you need is plug converter from US plug to indian plug. This should be available in india too(we got it in mumbai).
Otherwise you will have to buy a 230 V to 110 V converter and connect the power supply adapter to it.

I need information on different programs that you use for capturing video. (I otherwise use iMovie on iMac but thats not compatible with PC)

Sandy..

I dont know how to copy protect VCD. But to put Logos (watermarks etc) you can use Adobe Premier or I think Pinnacle also will do that. Or you can use simple authoring tools, which comes with camcorder.

Hi

I am thinking of buying a camcorder by JVC with a hard disc. One of the Everio G series. Does anybody knows about the performance of this? Can anybody suggest a model comparable with this?

मनमॉजी...

just few months back i have purchased JVC X5, it's giving me better quality than those cannon, sony camcoders...

I am not sure but I heard those JVC camcorders with HDD stores video in some special format which is hard to edit. so better go for trusted Mini DV solution, which is easilty repairable *if required* anywhere in the world.

You'll need firewire port on ur machine if you want to import Mini DV video on your machine.

Rahul

Thanks for the info. Yes, what you say about JVC camcorder is true. I have one with me which I had bought in 1998 and is still good condition and I have never taken to the repairs shop.
About the storage, it stores the recording in the MPEG2 format which I think is the 'VCD' form. Correct me if I am wrong.
