windows 98 does not support unicode properly. Even Microsoft is going to stop supporting windows 98 after two months. So if you get a virus or something there won't be a fix after July 11,2006. You are running a big risk still using windows 98.

Admin, do we still really need to use dynamic fonts on Maayboli? Some people (using IE and not having any unicode font installed) cannot see all devnagari posts properly, and I believe this is related to the use of dynamic fonts. If we don't use dynamic fonts, people will be forced to download an unicode font since they won't be able to see any devnagari posts at all. Also, dynamic fonts are not supported by all the browsers and are being phased out anyway. We can put a download unicode link on the homepage and remove the support for dynamic fonts, I think this will avoid unnecessary confusion.

Admin, I see some devanagari posts (mostly copied text) with squares in Internet Explorer with :
1. Gargi font installed, dynamic font disabled.
2. No font installed, dynamic font enabled.
However, I see all posts fine with CDAC-GISTYogesh. That's strange because our dynamic font seems to be based on CDAC-GISTYogesh, correct me if I'm wrong. I don't see any issue with Mangal, ArialUnicodeMS and Raghu either.

That is correct. Our dynamic font is based on CDAC-GISTYogesh.
But there should not be problem with gargi either as it is also a unicode font.
There are still many readers who access maayboli at work and not allowed to install or change fonts. That is why we are still support dynamic fonts. But supporting dynamic fonts should not preclude from viewing pages if real unicode font is installed.
If there is a real font installed, it gets used if not dynamic fonts get downloaded and used.

ref to my post on Thursday, May 25, 2006. केड्याने संगितल्याप्रमाणे मी तो font install केलाहि आणि तेव्हा सगळ्या चौकोनांचे रुपांतर झाले अक्षरांमधे. पण आता परत तेच.
माझ्या मुंबईच्या कॉम्प वर मी कुठलेच font install न करताहि हा problem येत नाहिये याचा अर्थ माझ्या कॉम्प च्या setting मधे काहितरी घोळ आहे. हे काय असेल? मदत करा रे कंटाळा आला चौकोन बघुन बघुन.. ओळखिची मायबोली अचानक अनोळखी व्हायला लागलीये.
