Sayali: as of my knowledge u cannot start ur own business on H1 visa unless u can show substantial amount of financial backing.....by substantial I mean almost couple 100 thousand $$. If you are GC then u can start ur business but there r certain requirements as to u need to have 5 US citizens as partners in busines vagaire......dunno in great details though.

Sayali: It is true that you cannot start a business on H1 visa. However, you can definitely start your own business once you have a GC....I am quite sure that there is no rule about needing to have 5 US citizens as partners, you can definitely start on your own. All you need to do is first register your company. Also about the $ amount, it depends on the type of business you are planning to start....if its some consulting firm with just 1 or 2 consultants, then surely you don't require hundereds and thousands of US $ to do that.
