Asami, I guess my question does not relate to visa stamping (since it does not apply for those with valid multiple H-1/F-1 or advance parole). Somebody's lawyer suggested that international travel was not recommended if one had a choice, since border officers are on high alert. In any case, I would appreciate any feedback from people who have returned recently. Thanks.

I'd like to know if any of you have been able to book tickets to India in Nov/Dec. Many of the flights going over Europe are facing problems, as none of them can fly over Afganistan; hence need to fly over Russia. Many of the flights simply stand cancelled. There'll also be possible price hike, that's what our agent said.
pl let me know your experiences, especially if you have got a ticket :)
I guess, most of the problem is getting the flight than the visa status.

I am booked on Northwest in November and I guess they are still flying to Mumbai. Travel agent says that as far as he can tell - flights are still flying in to Bombay though some flights to Delhi have been cancelled by NW when they reduced their schedule. Northwest actually has a travel promotion (something like $400/500 + 5000 frequent flyer miles for a round trip to many locations in Asia- on their website) so I am surprised that there is talk of a price hike.

Shubha one of my friend who happened to be live in MidWest had trans-atlantic flight in Nov which was cancelled and then he got trans pacific flight. Of course I know this is not much helpful. Just wanted to share.

one of my frnd has ticket to india in nov, air france, and there were 2 flights on that day. his flight is cancelled, but he is given seat on the other flight on the same day. i think, some flights are cancelled but not all together. and some flight schedules are changed. but there should not be much problem to get ticket.

we are travelling on british airways in first week of nov. I had called BA and confirmed that the flight is still on schedule. They told me that BA has only cancelled flights to Islamabad, but none to India.
as far as immigration is concerned, I think that immigration officers will be more strict and critical. But personally i believe that if you have a valid visa/ gc you should not have problems.
Jagguda, can you please post more information on why the lawyer believes one should not travel. Even If the officers are on high alert, it will take more time to come out of airport, but if one does not have any bad intentions why should he not travel?

I guess the information from the lawyer might be precautionary rather than anything else. There is certainly no example of anyone being refused entry at this point. The exact quote is "We're not encouraging anyone to travel internationally, if they have any choice in the matter, until things cool down a little. The folks at the border are about as touchy as they can be." I tend to be very circumspect in matters of the INS which is why I wanted to get a few different viewpoints. However, having talked to a few people in the same boat, I am starting to feel that other than increased scrutiny and the precaution of carrying any and all relevant paperwork, it should probably be okay.
